'Trio in Rio' (Brazil)
D. Coelho creates a vivid composition, juxtaposing vital elements of Rio de Janeiro against a background of glowing color. The iconic tiled sidewalk along Copacabana beach forms the background for the statue of Christ on Corcovado Hill, and appears again above a postcard image of Sugarloaf Hill. The third element of the artist's trinity can be seen in cyclists on the beach walk. Freehand script provides a commentary on these quintessentially Brazilian icons, and photo transfers give the impression of a collage.
