Wood statuette, 'Playing Kemong' (Indonesia)

A man closes his eyes, enveloped in the aura created by his traditional instrument. The kemong is a kind of small, hand-held gong, usually made of bronze and used in the Balinese gamelan orchestra to mark the midpoints of melodies. Wayan Rendah shapes this vision by hand from local crocodile wood, the material's blond hue complementing varied grain patterns.
